If you thought the original The Last of Us on PlayStation 3 told a dark and haunting tale, Naughty Dog upped the stakes in almost every way with the 2020 sequel. The Last of Us Part II continues the story of both Ellie and Joel, picking up events almost four years after the first game to tell a narrative centred on violence and what can occur if you can’t break out of it.
The Last of Us Part II is a PS4 exclusive and therefore one of the best-looking games on the platform. Ellie’s character model will react and change overtime to communicate all the horrid events she’ll have to fight through, all as she attempts to seek vengeance within an incredibly detailed version of Seattle for the bulk of the game.
Penned once again by creative director Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us Part II is the best example of a modern game that pays just as much attention to its narrative as its gameplay. Speaking of which, Ellie has a lot more tools to help out on her journey this time around, including a penknife that sees her always ready to instantly kill any clicker. Also new are rope-swinging mechanics, which allows you to reach high-up areas and solve puzzles.
If you’re looking for one of the most mature games on PlayStation 4, The Last of Us Part II is likely to be it and then some.
